Parent Involvement program requirements and Options

Based on Sec. 1118 of the Improving
P.L. 103-382
School Wide Title I
In order to comply with the requirements
of the laws governing schools which receive Title I funds, each school must
plan parent involvement activities for the parents of participating children. This worksheet covers the components required
in Sec. 1118 of P.L. 103-382.

Schools will plan,
implement, and document efforts to promote parent involvement. |
*Send a Parent Involvement
Survey home to get parent’s input on their needs and expectations in the area
of parent involvement. * Have meetings and
programs that are meaningful to the parents.
Use their requests in planning. *Schedule convenient
meeting times for parents: before
school, during school, afternoons, and evenings. *Give parents special
prizes and awards for attending. Keep
a record of attendance at all parent involvement activities. Have door prizes. Serve refreshments. *Send thank you notes to
parents who attend, letting ones absent know you missed them, and hope they
can come to the next event. *Give parents as much

Communication with parents will include, but not be
limited to: Annual meeting, school
performance profile, school parent compact, and individual student

*An annual meeting to which all parent will be
invited will be held at the beginning of the school year. (Barriers to attendance should be addressed
including child care, the need for flexible scheduling, translators, etc. *Attendance at this meeting will be encouraged by
regular classroom teachers as well as school and county-wide staff. * The school performance profile will be sent home. *Compacts will be signed by school staff and sent
home for parent and student signatures.
When returned they will be kept on file at school. * The student’s individual student assessment

Address the importance of communication on an on going
basis. Through parent-teacher
conferences (annually) discuss; the parent-school compact, describe the
curriculum, forms of assessment used, strengths, and areas for improvement. |
